Lyrics
Verse 1:
There’s a light which lights the darkness
There is hope for all who seek
Strength will rise for those who wait
Humbly before Your throne of grace
Verse 2
Rest is found there for the weary
A warm embrace for the prodigal
A safe strong refuge for the weak
For the loveless, love recieved
Chorus:
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Alleluia, to the Lord most high.
Alleluia. Alleluia.
Alleluia, to the Lord
Most high.
Verse 3
Grace is found in every sunrise
His love consumes me like a flood
His mercy washes over me
So that I can be redeemed
Verse 4
A Father to the fatherless
Resrtorer of the broken soul
By His stripes I am healed
Through His death His love revealed

About “Alleluia” by Barry McCormick
This song started as the little guitar riff you here in the introduction. This was partly inspired by the acoustic guitar in Delirious’ “Oh Lead me” one of my favourite songs theirs. It’s simple, prayerful and just expresses what I think is most faithful Christian’s desire. On top of this I had been experimenting with Drop D and other alternate tunings and tried to emulate the kind of likes I was hearing in these kinds of pieces.
I was meditating on finding our hope in Christ and as I played through this riff the words started to come so I started to shape the lyrics around ideas in scripture that give me hope: Christ being our light; finding rest in God; Seeking God and finding him; Strength etc. And it wasn’t long till my verses took shape. The only appropriate response to to this hope that is manifestly seen through the work of Christ is to bow in adoration and sing “Alleluia” which is what became the chorus and title.
May this song help you remember the hope we have in Christ and help you kneel in Adoration in thanksgiving for that hope.
